Updated November 2025

Crypto gambling keeps gaining traction across Australia as players look for faster payments and smoother access to offshore gaming sites. Many Aussies now use Bitcoin, Ethereum, and other digital coins because transfers clear quickly and avoid common banking delays. For players exploring pokies, table games, or live dealers, crypto payments offer flexibility and fewer interruptions than traditional methods.

Still, choosing the best crypto casinos in Australia can be tricky. Standards vary across offshore platforms, and only some offer strong security, quick payouts, and transparent terms. This guide outlines what to expect, how to stay safe, and which sites consistently deliver reliable performance for Australian players.

Why Australians Choose Crypto Casinos

Here’s the thing — crypto fits the way Aussies like to gamble online. Transactions move fast, fees stay low, and players gain more privacy than with traditional banking. A Bitcoin payment is often faster than card or bank transfers, and you avoid the usual headaches of card declines or long withdrawal queues.

Another big draw comes from choice. Most bitcoin casinos in Australia support several coins: BTC, ETH, LTC, USDT, and others. Players can jump between different tokens depending on market swings or personal preference. For Australians who travel or live remotely, crypto also removes the hassle of geo-blocked payment processors.

For most players, it simply feels smoother. No bank questioning your transactions, no slow wires, and no fuss about currency conversions. You deposit, play, and withdraw your winnings without waiting around.

Legal & Safety Context for Crypto Casinos in Australia

Crypto casinos operate in a different space from traditional online betting sites in Australia. Local laws don’t allow companies to run online crypto casinos within the country, which means all real-money casino play happens through offshore operators. Aussies aren’t committing an offence by using these sites, but operators themselves can’t base their services inside Australia.

The ACMA (Australian Communications and Media Authority) monitors offshore gambling activity and blocks domains that breach local rules. These blocks don’t target players; they simply limit direct access to unregulated or non-compliant platforms. Most licensed crypto casinos respond by using backup domains or mirrors, which explains why URLs can occasionally shift.

For Aussies, the key safety marker comes from the offshore licence. The most common regulatory bodies you’ll see include:

  • Curaçao Gaming Control Board — long-running authority, widely used across crypto gambling.
  • Anjouan (Comoros) — newer but increasingly common for crypto-first platforms.
  • Kahnawake Gaming Commission — respected, but fewer crypto casinos hold this licence.

These licences provide basic oversight, including game auditing and operator accountability. While they don’t follow Australian regulations, they still provide a structure that separates legit operators from shady ones.

Safety still matters. Even offshore platforms must follow responsible gambling principles, and Aussies should treat crypto gaming the same as any other online wagering: stay within your limits and pick well-known brands.

Pros & Cons of Crypto Gambling in Australia

Crypto gambling appeals to many Australians, though it’s still important to understand its limits.

  • Very fast withdrawals, often under 10 minutes.
  • Extra privacy compared to bank cards.
  • Access to offshore pokies and games unavailable in local markets.
  • Lower fees, especially for regular players.

Cons

  • Crypto prices fluctuate, affecting bankroll value.
  • Offshore platforms don’t offer the same consumer protections as Australian banks.
  • Bonuses sometimes include higher wagering than standard AUD crypto casinos.

Responsible Crypto Gambling Tips

Crypto makes online play smoother, but responsible habits remain essential. Set a budget in AUD before depositing and stick to it. Most reputable crypto casinos offer deposit limits and cooling-off tools, so turn them on if you feel your spending creeping up.

Avoid chasing market swings while you play — your deposit value may rise or fall, and that’s normal. Use licensed platforms, not random Telegram groups or unverified operators. If gambling stops feeling enjoyable, take a break or reach out to support services available in Australia.

Final Verdict – Finding the Best Crypto Casino in Australia

Aussie players have more crypto gambling options than ever, but sticking with trusted names pays off. The top crypto casinos AU combine fast Bitcoin withdrawals, strong licences, and thousands of pokies from well-known providers.

Pick a site with transparent rules, good support, and bonuses that actually suit your style. If you’re ready to compare the safest platforms, check our full guide to the best crypto casinos Australia and choose one that fits your budget, coin preference, and playing habits.

Charitable exercises by Land-based Casino clubs

Isn’t it a great opportunity to harness our power as an internet betting community to allow permitting to have an effect in this world? Various platforms, in addition to casino clubs, have demonstrated their support. They showed enthusiasm in supporting non-benefit associations which better existences of individuals all over the world.

In any case, a genuine cash gambler causes addiction and even prompts a man’s life to ruin. By seeing this situation in society because of gambling. Players and club administrators may truly head things in an appropriate direction. Like alleviation help, counternarcotics help, assisting with people battling with a disease, and some more. So in the event that a gambler doesn’t win, it will be a money help for those out of luck as a form of charity.

Online gambling charity Initiative

Many charities over the globe have started a similar initiative.

1. Beton Charity

Beton Charity shares about 4 to 40% of the Betoncharity.com house to Charity house. Everyone gets shocked by their generosity. They have 4 societies formed for charities and donations claims –

  1. Red Crescent & International Red Cross
  2. The Institute of UCSF Aids Research
  3. Foundation called Make-a-Wish America
  4. Including the American Cancer Society

So that people or gamblers can use a group towards which to make the donations from playing poker. Also by playing horse racing, sports betting and simply enjoying casino games like slots on slot machines.

2. Paf

PAF club foundation proved everyone wrong about the gambling money-making process and the egoistic nature of the gamblers. The abbreviation PAF means Play Among Friends. It is promoted while playing games like poker, slots, and more life and integrated casinos.

3. RehabBingo

RehabBingo is associated and a sponsor of the Rehab Group. Not many people were aware of this as it provides huge help and support to the Rehab Group. They supported fifty thousand disabled people financially with having different physical and intellectual deformities. It is now in a working position only in Ireland. For charities, they offer gamblers to play 9 bingo rooms and casino slots.

4. Captain Charity

CaptainCharity.com shares 50% of its organization profit with 10 institutions. Later they have planned to help many more societies which will be chosen by the gamblers.

5. Brick and Mortar Casinos Donations

Afterwards, Brick and Mortar proprietors have posed similar inquiries in regards to noble causes. For instance, the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation makes a few awards to nearby causes, we are discussing 83,000 dollars. Presently the framework is getting formed. And that’s only the tip of the iceberg and more establishments have shown up their interest.

Allegedly, 1% of the benefit has been seen to be going on charitable giving. Tribes gambling club administrators said that they had experienced negative generalizations as the club became rich.

Thus it is good to see the world of gambling is moving in a positive direction. As their motivation tilted towards helping and supporting the needs.

What are charity pull tabs?

Charity pull tabs are paper tickets that are played with the hope of winning money. Particularly popular in states that do not permit more common forms of gambling, they are used to raise money for charities.  Pull tabs are sometimes known as Cherry Bells, Break Opens of Lucky 7s. The surface of the ticket will show pictures and the prize value of each winning combination. It will also state how many winners there are for each prize. Each tab is then slid out (by pulling on it
hence the name “pull tab”). The pulled tab will reveal the matching symbols and the prize if any.

Pull tabs are legal in around 20 states in the US. It’s possible to win up to $5000 on one ticket, but some states impose maximum win values of nearer $600.

How do they work?

Pull tabs offer a unique opportunity to raise money for charity since the exact quantity of prizes is already known before starting. Indeed, pull tabs are extremely transparent to players stating how many prizes there are and how many major prizes have already been won are shown on a correlating tally sheet.  Let’s say we have a pull tab case. We are selling the tickets for $1 each and there are 3980 cards in the case.  It reasons that if we sell all the tickets we will generate $3980.  We also know the prize distribution. Let’s suppose there are 160 prizes to be won in the case with the following prize split:

2 winners at $300 = $600 in cash prizes

x2 winners at $250 = $500 in cash prizes

2 winners at $200 = $400 in cash prizes

6 winners at $100 = $600 in cash prizes

8 winners at $25 = $200 in cash prizes

140 winners at $5 = $700 in cash prizes

This means the definite payout is $3000, or 75.4% of the total ticket sale value. With 75.4% of $3980 total sale value in prizes, the remaining 24.6% (or “definite profit”) is worth $980. So the amount that will be raised for charity with this case is $980.

It is now possible to play electronic pull tabs. The advantage for the player is that the terminal will show exactly how many prizes are left and the chances for winning each one.

How often do you win at charity pull tabs?

The return to player in this example of 75.4% is quite a typical payout for pull tabs. They can range from as little as 58% or up to 80%. However, when compared to online slots the return is much lower. It is more typical to see return to player payouts of between 93% – 96%.

Casinos are dealing with huge amounts of money. Literally billions pass through the industry’s accounting books annually. So with this much money in mind, it would be natural to expect to see some casino charitable donations. Casinos supporting local communities and initiatives. If you’re interested in finding out what your local gambling venue is doing for charity casinos jungle can guide you to your nearest one.

In this article, we take a look at two major Vegas casino groups to see what kinds of initiatives they are supporting.

Las Vegas Sands

Las Vegas Sands are one of the biggest casino groups. Venues include The Venetian and The Palazzo in Vegas, Marina Bay Sands in Singapore, and Sands Macao. In March 2020, in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic the group donated over 2 million piece of PPE (personal protection equipment) to hospital and care workers in New York and Nevada.  This donation included 2 million medical masks and 20,000 protective suits.  Sands chairman and CEO Sheldon G. Adelson made heartfelt comments “Our properties in Las Vegas may be empty right now, but our hearts are full of hope for the future. The determination and courage I have seen in our Team Members, which I know is the same throughout this country, gives me every confidence we will get through this unprecedented crisis.”

Sands group also donated $250,000 to Three Square, Communities in Schools and Share Village Las Vegas. These charities provide hunger relief, meals to school students who would be receiving food in schools had they been open. Plus a veterans community food pantry respectively.  As well as financial donations, Sands donated 60 pallets of food and 55,000 bottles of water to help local communities. During the pandemic and the subsequent closure of casino venues the group has taken care of its workers with health cover and pay.

Sands reported earnings of $13.7 billion net revenues in 2018. Therefore it is easy to see how the company is able to provide such large amounts of charitable relief. However, this should not diminish the fact that they have proven to be community minded and socially responsible. We see this particularly in this time of crisis.

MGM Resorts Casino Charitable Donations

MGM Resorts is another giant casino corporation. Properties include The Mirage, Mandalay Bay, Bellagio, Circus and MGM Las Vegas. They generated approximately 12.9billion US Dollars in 2019. In case you were not aware, casino management is big business!

In 2002 the company created the MGM Resorts Foundation.  Since it was founded it has raised more than $80 million. MGM has supported over 1,500 charities predominantly in the areas where the casino company operates. Mainly Nevada, Michigan, Mississippi and Maryland charities have benefitted, chosen by MGM Resorts employees.  The funds in question are those donated by employees but the company takes on the administrative costs. The company has made volunteering a core part of it’s ethos.

Food Banks

Hardships on low income families have never been more prevalent and unnecessary than it is today. Many families across the US can not always afford to put food on the table. Children may go to school hungry. Food banks are under strain and many corporations are getting involved to help support them. MGM resorts has partnered with Three Square Food Bank to help support local communities. They also place a huge emphasis on environmental, educational and sustainable goals and practices. In March 2020 they too provided Covid 19 relief; donating 400,000 meals and pledging $1million to an employee emergency grant fund.

What’s happening near you? Get involved!

What do you think about how much casinos should donate to charity? Don’t be afraid to contact your local casino, bingo or betting venue. Request info on what has been done to support your community. You may find the information available on the company website! You can also offer to volunteer to help. Or perhaps you have some good ideas for casino charitable donations.

Bingo can be a lot of fun. If you’re not familiar with the game, the basic principal is that every player has a card each printed with numbers in rows and lines. 90 ball or 75 ball bingo are most common. The balls are pulled at random from a cage and as they numbers are announced, the players mark off the corresponding numbers on their bingo cards. Prizes are won for a player getting “full house” which means they have marked off all the numbers on their bingo card.  Prizes can also be won for getting one line or two lines completed on their cards. Online these games can be more complicated, with prizes won for getting particular shapes matched on cards.

If you are looking for a fun way to raise money for a chosen charity you might like to consider hosting your own bingo night!

Firstly you will need to choose a charity to fundraise for. It might be something close to your heart or your community. Be specific since you want people to join and donate to your cause too.

You will need to be aware of local laws for your country to make sure you are not breaching any. In the UK it is permitted to host a charity bingo night without a license. However, you should research to see if it is required to hold a gambling or alcohol license if you wish to serve anything stronger than soft drinks at your event. Check that age restrictions are met properly, any rules around money handling, or taxation on prizes if you are planning to award cash (though for the purposes of a charity event it makes more sense to give away tangible prizes).

You will need the following:

Bingo Cards

Pens/Dabbers

Bingo Cage and Balls OR use an online random number generator to determine the ball numbers for you

A bingo caller

Prizes

Themes

You will be looking to make the event full for everyone, so perhaps basing it around a fun theme. You could encourage fancy dress costumes, for example a pirate theme. The prizes could be kept in a treasure chest and instead of calling out “Bingo” as is customary, players could shout “Arrrrrgh!” instead. Or you could go for a roaring 20’s or Hollywood glamour look. Whatever you think you can use to maximise decoration, design and most of all fun for your guests.

Prizes

You’ll need to have a good stash of prizes. You’ll be hosting many games as it only takes around 5 minutes for one game to finish.  You could give away small, fun prizes for smaller games like candy or soaps.  For bigger prizes why not contact local businesses and ask for donations? In return for their generosity you can promote their name during the game or on advertising materials if you are going big enough to warrant flyers and posters. You might be able to get a free meal for two at a local restaurant, a fruit basket from your local store or tickets to your local family attractions like zoos, cinemas and theme parks.

Food and Drink

Make sure you have ample refreshments on hand. You can sell teas, coffees, cakes and soft drinks to raise money for your charity. Perhaps if the weather is good you can host outside and have a BBQ sizzling away.

Volunteers

Depending on how big you want to go with your event you might need some help! Ask a few friends to help join in to source prizes, print tickets, serve refreshments and collect donations.

Crowd

Lastly, don’t forget to tell everyone about it! You should promote it every way possible to ensure you get a good crowd to your charity bingo event. Use social media, newsletters, posters, flyers and try to get a mention on local radio or papers.

The UK’s National lottery was first drawn on the 19th of November in 1994. Whilst the odds of winning the jackpot are incredibly small (about 45million to 1) it has remained hugely popular. Winnings are paid out tax free and in one life changing lump sum.

How much national lottery money goes to charity?

Camelot takes 1% of revenue, 4% is spent on operating costs and the remaining 95% is shared as winners prizes, taxes and community projects.

From the 2019-2020 stats we can see that of 7,905 million pounds worth of ticket sales 57% was paid out to winning lottery players, 12% was paid to the UK government in lottery duty (basically 948 million pounds was taxed), 4% went to lottery ticket retailers in commission and 23% or ÂŁ1,853.1 million went to National lottery projects.

Of these lottery projects, funds are shared proportionately to different sectors. Arts, sports and heritage projects receive 20% each, and 40% goes to health, education, environment and charitable causes.

Over the years since the National lottery’s inception this has resulted in ÂŁ42 billion being raised for over 625,000 projects nationwide.  This is an impressive figure and represents many individuals and groups who would otherwise be unsupported in their goals and projects.  It can be said that a lot of good has come from national lottery projects.

Notable winners

It is always fun to imagine winning the lottery. Since its inception in 1994 the National Lottery has made 5,700 millionaires.

Perhaps most famous was Michael Carroll. He was a 19 year old Norfolk binman when he won ÂŁ9.7million on the National Lottery in 2002. Dubbed the “Lotto Lout” and “King of the Chavs” Mike blew his entire fortune on a party lifestyle. His antics delighted the tabloid press. After giving a million each to his mum, aunt, ex-wife and her mother he spent the rest on a lavish and destructive lifestyle. He spent 2 grand a day on cocaine and to the chagrin of his neighbours he build a derby race track around his country home. Dirt bikes revving and demolishing cars was fun for he and his friends, not so much for the community. His wife left him after his constant cheating on her with prostitutes.

During that time he was called to make 30 court appearances for various misdemeanors. Charges including throwing hamburgers at pedestrians out of his luxury cars. He was banned from all the pubs in the area. His raucous parties meant he was despised by his neighbours. By 2012 he had spent every last penny and was on unemployment benefits. Today he claims he has no regrets, he had an incredible ride winning and spending his money so quickly. He seems to be happy to have nothing too. Carroll takes the philosophical line that it is better to have won and spent it than to have never won at all! It’s hard to argue with that logic anyway.

Young Lottery Winners Regrets

Several younger lottery winners since voiced their concerns that they were not ready to have that much money. UK’s youngest lottery winner was Callie Rogers who won 1.87million aged 16. She blew her winnings on parties, cars, plastic surgery and cocaine. She now says the age limit for playing the lottery should be increased to 18 instead of 16.  Similarly Jane Park a 17 year old lottery winner claims she was not prepared for the press attention. The UK now seems likely to raise the minimum age to buy a ticket to 18 in 2021.

However, not everyone who wins the lottery goes crazy spending it all on drugs parties and prostitutes.  Many are ordinary people whos lives are changed of course. However, many continue to work or volunteer as they had done before. We still like to imagine what it would be like to win none the less!

Many online casinos publish press releases regarding their charitable acts and ongoing partnerships with local communities. This article puts the spotlight on a few high profile cases. Victor Hugo said “As the purse is emptied, the heart is filled.” Is this still true in every charitable case? Let’s explore.

$1 million charity poker tournament

Pokerstars drew attention in May 2020 with its “Call for action” online poker event. It hosted a charity poker tournament featuring dozens of celebrities and sports stars with $1 million donated by Poker Stars. CARE International, a humanitarian organization, received at least half that value. Participating celebrities included Michael Cera, Jon Hamm, David Schwimmer, Don Cheadle, Bryan Cranston, Amy Schumer and Edward Norton.

Similarly, GGPoker donated over $350,000 after a massive WSOP charity poker tournament online. Over 2000 entrants donated $111 of the buy in fee to Caesars Cares assistance fund. This fund helps Caesars Entertainment staff suffering hardships brought on by the 2020 Covid 19 pandemic.

Charity under pressure

Sometimes donations are made for darker reasons, more as penance than out of simple good nature. In May 2020, casino operator and games provider Playtech made an increased donation to responsible gambling charities. This was following the unfortunate suicide of a former customer. Playtech announced it would boost the donation to 3.5million GBP.  The move came shortly after UKGC (United Kingdom Gambling Commission) released an investigation. Their findings revealed that a 25 year old man had gone on a 5 day gambling spree, losing over 119k. The enquiry found that the company had failed to have sufficient anti money laundering and social responsibility processes.

At first Playtech had offered to settle by paying 619k, which UKGC deemed insufficient. The company would be penalized 3.5million had its subsidiary brands not been withdrawn from the UK. Therefore Playtech agreed to increase the donation to match it. The brand apologized to the family of the victim and has since worked hard to improve safety measures in place. However, the initial good sentiment at hearing of a 3.5million donation feels somewhat tarnished when we find the reasons behind it are not born from true altruism.

Annual fundraising

Some casino brands have made a bit of a name for themselves when it comes to regular charitable donations. Microgaming is well known for it’s annual “Gift Of Giving” campaign. Since it started the campaign has raised £210,000. The way it works is the company gives Microgaming operators and partners the opportunity to donate to worthy causes. They can contribute by voting for the charity they wish to see receiving donations. The Gift of Giving campaign is part of Microgaming’s “PlayItForward” charity initiative that provides support to many local initiatives.

Euromillions is a massive lottery, held weekly. The prize value is always huge. A percentage of the ticket sales goes to Euromillions charities. At the time of writing 42million is waiting to be won! We better get our tickets now!

The EuroMillions lottery format works on the basis that you select 5 numbers and 2 lucky star numbers. To get a win you must have a combination of numbers and ideally stars. You must be old enough to play, according to the rules of your country. Draws are held weekly.

How do you win in EuroMillions?

5 numbers plus 2 lucky stars means winning the jackpot. The average prize is 44million.

5 numbers plus 1 lucky star will score you an average 300k.  The won amount really depends on the total prize pool plus how many winners there are. If you’re the only winner that week you could be looking at millions in prize money! If there are 20 other winners you might take nearer 50k. But a win is a win!

There are variations on the winning combinations. Getting 1 number and 2 lucky stars which will win an average 7EUR.

Hitting 2 correct numbers plus 1 lucky star will win on average 5EUR.

Finally the lowest win is 2 numbers. If you get two, you’ll probably win back your ticket price. You and probably 4 million other winners will be getting the same.

Each participating country donates a portion of ticket sales to a charity project. We have already examined the UK National Lottery’s proportional donation value. What is happening in other member states?

Euromillions charities in France

The French National Lottery is known as “Francaise Des Jeux”. The FDJ foundation supports many social and sporting projects. In 2020 there were 7 major projects chosen to receive millions in lottery grants. They received 3.6million EUR in total and will be supported for two years.  These charity projects include support for reading for children with social difficulties, also professional reintegration for refugees. Another action is aiding children with dyspraxia.

Spain

Loterias y Apuestas del Estado is the main state owned lottery. However, Spain has a deeply linked history with charitable lotteries. For example ONCE is a foundation that concentrates on providing training, integration and employment programs to people with disabilities. It was formed in 1938 to raise money for people either blind or suffering from serious visual impairment.  The idea is to give work to visually impaired people. Since they are a charitable organization, they are permitted to run lottery games. This is how they raise money for the charity.

The Cupon is sold nationwide to Spanish citizens, and offers huge tax free cash prizes to winners. The sale points employ blind or partially blind people to sell the tickets.

Ireland Euromillions Charities

Between 1987 and 2019 Ireland’s national lottery has raised a huge 5.5billion EUR for “Good Causes” in the country. Every year applicants make their case to request Good Causes funding. Their charities and projects reflect community, youth, arts and culture, sports and rec, and health.

Around 4,000 organisations receive funding every year. Moreover Ireland’s charitable donation is substantial. 30cents from every 1EUR spent on ticket sales going to charity. Unlike other European lotteries, some of which were expressly started to raise money for the government, the Irish lottery was formed to raise funds for charity.

For a relatively small investment it is possible to not only help your local and national communities but you might get a life changing win! For these reasons its easy to see why playing the lottery is so popular in Europe. Even those unable to go to a point of sale can buy tickets online on their computers. Even more conveniently, lottery tickets can be purchased with an app! You can download them from google play or the app store. The other advantage with buying online is you can not lose your ticket. Therefore you will have more chance of claiming your winnings!

There are many organisations set up in the US to help protect vulnerable, underage and problem gamblers and their families. We take a look at just a few to see what their organizational goals are and how they can provide help to people.

National Council on Problem Gambling

The objective of the NCPG is to increase public awareness of problem and compulsive gambling. They provide support and services to treat problem gamblers and work on community outreach to aid prevention and supply education about gambling. Reducing stigma around problem gambling is also a key facet this organization supports.

The National Council doesn’t take sides when it comes to legalized gambling, it seeks to educate, protect and support.

Founded in 1972 the organization already laid down the foundation rules it would adhere to even today; it would be a voice for problem gamblers and their families and that it would take no stance for or against legalized gambling.

https://www.ncpgambling.org/ or call 1800 522 4700 to learn more or to reach out to someone who can help.

It is possible to join NCPG as a member and make donations to help their mission. They also offer training and certification to members and counselors.

New Mexico Council on Problem Gambling

The NMCPG is dedicated to increasing public awareness about compulsive gambling in a culturally sensitive manner. It places a strong emphasis on problem gambling treatment and prevention programmes for gamblers and their families.

The NMCPG.org was founded in 1998 by Kandace S.Blanchard. She was an advocate of research, support and education on gambling disorders before founding the council. The organization is the state representative for the National Council on Problem Gambling. If you wish to contact the New Mexico Council on Problem Gambling you can email them at copgambl@westoffice.net

Oregon Council on Problem Gambling

The OCPG’s mission is to support efforts to minimize gambling related harm, and thus promoting the health of Oregon’s residents. As an organization it is affiliated to the National Council on Problem Gambling.  One of its guiding principals is that as the state enables gambling as a source of revenue, it must therefore have a duty of care to protect Oregonians. More specifically, protect them from the impact of gambling related harm. Thus any action made by the state that would increase access to gambling, promote gambling to a wider and potentially more vulnerable audience must be closely monitored. Any action taken must consider and act upon these elements to apply measures that would limit potential harm.  They plan to do so by working in close collaboration with gamblers and their families. Also with gaming operators, industry experts and researchers. Plus state treatment and harm reduction services.

The examples above only refer to two states, but provides an example of the kinds of support available nationwide. There are also many smaller support groups, or meetings such as gamblers anonymous.  The NCPG is a good place to start if you think you or someone you know needs help. They can provide information about local support in your area too.

Charity can be the smallest, kind gesture. It doesn’t necessarily mean giving away millions of dollars. However, we’d be missing an interesting subject to skip discussing the biggest philanthropists of our time.

Chuck Feeney

Chuck Feeney is one of our favourite philanthropists. He made his fortune from an empire of Duty Free Shoppers network of stores. As he retired he vowed to give away his fortune and die broke. He has donated $8billion to charity during his “Giving While Living” ambition. Perhaps most admirably, Chuck Feeney gave away his billions anonymously, seeking no fame or gratitude for his gifts.

His generosity inspired Bill Gates and Warren Buffet to set up Giving Pledge in 2010. Giving Pledge urges the world’s wealthiest people to donate at least half their fortunes before their deaths. It is far more gratifying to see the impact of a donation rather than waiting til after death! Chuck has said as much and we believe him.

Warren Buffet

$14.7billion is a huge amount of money, and Warren Buffet has given it away to charity over the last 5 years. He is the CEO and chairman of Berkshire Hathaway which was originally a group of textile mills. It has expanded over the years to include GEICO, Fruit of the Loom, Dairy Queen, Duracell and others. He has pledged to give away 99% of his wealth to philanthropy. In 2020 Warren Buffet’s net worth is reported as 86.2billion USD.  Fun fact: Warren Buffet eats McDonalds for breakfast! So even if you don’t have billions in the bank, you can still dine out like a billionaire.

Warren Buffett reportedly donated $4.1 billion worth of Berkshire Hathaway shares during his annual summer giveaway, shattering the previous record by a wide margin.

He donated to memorial funds in honor of his wife and three children, as well as to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, where the money would be used to combat global poverty and improve health, including the investigation and potential development of a vaccine against Covid-19.

After promising to donate 99 percent of his wealth, Buffett has become the most generous person in history. To help fight poverty, advance healthcare in developing countries, and provide access to quality education in the United States.

Buffett has donated between $2 billion and $3 billion in stock annually to the foundation of his friends Bill and Melinda French Gates.

In 2010, the well-known benefactor developed The Giving Pledge along with Bill and Melinda Gates. To top it all off, he has donated $4 billion to organizations named after his late wife and three children.

Bill & Melinda Gates

One of the most globally well known wealthy couples have given away $9.9billion over the same 5 year span.  The subject of their philanthropy is largely around poverty and health. Their involvement in virtually eradicating polio is well documented. Bill and Melinda have also aided women by providing contraceptive services to 120 million people.

You’ve probably heard other reports on donations they have made too. Their foundation continues to give to charity and help those in poverty.

Bill and Melinda Gates recently divorced after being married for 27 years, yet they remain co-chairs of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Accordingly, Forbes will keep tallying the former couple’s contributions together.

The foundation has pledged $5.8 billion in funding for 2020, some of which will go toward developing a vaccine against Covid-19. Since 2007, the Gateses and Warren Buffett have equally shared the foundation’s charitable giving.

Melinda’s generosity does not end at her workplace; her company, Pivotal Ventures, is an investment and incubator. His Open Society Foundations have funded initiatives to promote diversity and inclusion in the media, law, and the economy.

George Soros

$32 billion in charitable donations have been made by George Soros. He primarily supports democratic and human rights organisations. In 2020 George Soros’ networth is reportedly 8.6billion USD. How did he become rich? He is a wall street tycoon, and chairman of Soros Fund Management. Famously he bet against (shorted) the GBP in 1992, earning 1 billion dollars in profits for his hedge fund. He is the founder and chair of Open Society Foundations, a network of projects and foundations spread across more than 100 countries.

His philanthropy started in 1979 when he gave scholarships to black South African students living under apartheid. He also formed the Central European University after the fall of the Berlin Wall. Mr Soros has been very vocal on the damaging effect of the war on drugs, being worse than the drugs themselves. He has played a key role in promoting USA’s medical marijuana movement and same sex marriages. A lot of wealthy people could learn a lot about charity from George Soros!

The Story of Philanthropists Gordon and Betty Moore

The Intel cofounder, long-time CEO, and wife established a charity in 2000 using stock donations. The Moore Foundation and seven other institutions (including the Bezos Earth Fund and Bloomberg Philanthropies) pledged $5 billion in September 2021 to support biodiversity for the next decade.

The world’s most biologically significant 30% of sites will have been safeguarded by then. The Moore Foundation gave out over $350 million that year.

Donations Made by Michael Bloomberg

Michael Bloomberg, the ex-mayor of New York City and co-founder of Bloomberg LP, has given away over $12 billion to charity, including $1.6 billion in the last year alone. His advocacy addresses climate change, gun control, and public health.

He has given over $1 billion to anti-smoking causes since 2008 and, in 2018, pledged $1.8 billion to Johns Hopkins University, where he received his bachelor’s degree.

Bloomberg Philanthropies announced a $100 million commitment to four HBCU medical schools by 2020. Bloomberg committed $750 million over the next five years to assist charter schools in 20 metro zones around the United States.

Acts of Charity by Mackenzie Scotts

Scott’s latest Medium writings are highly anticipated by those working in the nonprofit sector. In less than two years, Scott has given away at least $8.6 billion to more than 780 separate organizations.

These groups advocate for various causes, including racial harmony, gender equality, and public health. While Scott revealed the general topic of her December 2021 Medium blog to be charitable giving, she did not reveal the identities of the beneficiaries of her most recent donations.

Scott promised additional details after criticism about his lack of openness prompted him to announce his intention to create a website with a gift registry.
